Home â€ș Food portion converter

Your plan. Your product label.

A food portion converter. Just the arithmetic.

Already have a daily calorie allowance for one food? Convert it to that product’s cups or grams. No guessed calories, breed factors or puppy feeding targets.

Convert an allowance you already have.

This tool does not calculate your dog’s calorie needs or recommend a feeding amount. Start with an existing vet or package feeding plan. If you do not already know the daily kcal allocated to this specific food, ask your veterinary team before using it.

Use only the kcal already allocated to this food in your plan, after accounting for other foods and treats. We do not set or check that allowance.

Choose the exact unit. A kcal/can or kcal/100 g value cannot be entered as kcal/cup or kcal/kg. Changing this selection clears the label value.

Copy the Calorie Content for this exact product, as fed, in the selected unit. Do not guess a density or use a guaranteed-analysis percentage.

Software limits: each input 0.001–1,000,000, at most 3 decimal places, using a decimal point without commas or exponents. Results must be between 0.001 and 1,000,000 cups or grams per day to display. These are software bounds, not healthy or safe feeding ranges; an accepted number is not a clinical assessment.

This tool does not save or send your inputs. There is no account or email collection.

Start with the plan—not this tool

This converter cannot decide how many calories your golden needs, whether a diet is complete or suitable, or how to feed a puppy, pregnant dog, underweight dog or dog with an illness. It cannot choose a weight-loss target. Ask your veterinary team for an individualized plan rather than changing food based on a calculated number.

Enter the part of your existing daily allowance assigned to this specific food. The converter does not automatically deduct treats, balance mixed foods, split meals or recommend how often to feed. Check those details in your existing plan.

Read the exact product label

Look for Calorie Content, usually shown as kcal/kg and a familiar measure such as kcal/cup or kcal/can. A food Calorie is a kilocalorie (kcal). Use the product’s as-fed energy value, not a dry-matter number or the guaranteed-analysis percentages. If the label does not provide one of the supported units, ask the manufacturer for the appropriate value; do not substitute a different unit.

For cups, use that manufacturer’s definition of a cup for that product. There is no universal grams-per-cup value. A kcal/kg entry gives grams, not cups; this tool cannot infer the missing volume-to-mass relationship.

The two calculations

  • Cups per day: your provided kcal/day for this food Ă· its label kcal/cup.
  • Grams per day: your provided kcal/day for this food Ă· its label kcal/kg × 1000 grams/kg.

Results are approximate displays of arithmetic, rounded to 3 significant figures—not new measurements or clinically validated portions. A label’s energy content may be calculated or tested, and numerical precision does not establish nutritional suitability.

Why we do not generate a calorie target

Veterinary references describe resting-energy formulas and life-stage factors as starting estimates, not universal prescriptions. Individual nutritional assessment and follow-up matter. We deliberately do not convert a dog’s breed, age, weight or activity into a daily feeding recommendation here.

Sources and scope

These references explain labels and clinical limitations; they do not endorse this independent arithmetic tool. No veterinary calorie model or life-stage-factor table is implemented.

Your inputs stay on this page

The converter does not save inputs, update the URL or send them to us. It does not read your weight journal or checklist. Printing is optional and happens on your device; you control any printed copy. Ordinary page requests still go to our hosting provider, as explained in our privacy policy.

For more context, read building a feeding plan with your vet or keep actual measurements in the observation-only weight journal.
